Back on the bus

We can catch the bus back home in two different places. The buses line up at the bus terminal located just behind the outdoor mercado.  Here, we look for a bus that goes to San Juan Obispo, we get in, and we wait for it to fill up. While we wait in the bus we are visited by vendors hawking boiled eggs, fried plantain, and Chiclets. Finally, the bus starts its route, dropping and adding people all along the way. The second place to catch the bus is at any point on its route.

Today we decided to avoid the bus terminal, the exhaust, and vendors, and catch the bus along its route. The bus was packed, 3 or 4 to a seat and the aisles standing full, so we took the only standing room remaining: on the steps of the bus. Twice we had to step out of the bus to let riders off and then quickly jump back in. Eventually a few people left the bus, and Buzz offered me the seat next to the breast-feeding mother. People continued to get on the bus, defying the scientific principle that two bodies cannot occupy the same space at the same time. At our stop, we squeeeeezed out, carrying a backpack and grocery bag. There is no way to photograph bus angst, so please enjoy another picture of the outdoor mercado.
