Down to the bare bones
Here is what's left of the Cathedral San Jose after the big quake of 1773. In its day, it had seven entrances, five naves, 78 arches, 18 chapels, a main sacristy, and a main chamber. Some of its ornate pillars and arches still stand, but the structure is completely open to the sky. This is not the original cathedral. The first one built on this site was destroyed by the big quake of 1583. Now the bare bones of the cathedral is an attraction for tourists. (Buzz was in his glory.) A small portion of the church was rebuilt. It is very dark inside, with people quietly praying and lighting candles.

Loved the pictures. Finally back to my own computer so I can see what you are doing.

Sounds really cool! And really big! Looks like a fun place to explore. In the current church, did you see any statues with ribbons all over it? We saw one like that in the Yucatan - I don't remember which saint it was, but people had written things on ribbons and tied them all over it.
